ABSTRACT

The twenty-first century is the age of information explosion, due to advance of information and communication technology (ICT) affecting various phases of human life. The introduction of ICT has brought revolutionary change in the economic and socio-structure of rural poor. Rural development is concerned with economic growth and social justice, improvement in the living standards of the rural people, becomes essential. Andhra Pradesh has taken up many initiatives to transform rural India into IT knowledge based economy. The ICT basically focuses on the rural development and poverty alleviation, better livelihood opportunities and provision of basic amenities and infrastructure through innovative programmes of wage and self-employment. ICTs are often spoken of in a particular context, such as ICTs in industry, education, health care, governance and libraries. E-government and e-governance are key challenges for governments today, as they involve multiple stakeholders and multiple processes and demand considerable coordination and collaboration as well as managerial and financial resources.
