ABSTRACT

In order to examine what the means in relation to the slogan of lifelong learning it will be useful to start by observing some of the most important characteristics of the very complex process of human learning. One important aspect of learning is that the acquisition process always includes both an incentive and a content dimension. In schooling and education, learning content is usually conceived as knowledge and skills, but it can also be such properties as understanding, insight, meaning, attitudes, methods, viewpoints, culture, qualifications, and competencies. Learning typologies can be set up from many perspectives, but it is significant that all the more advanced typologies in some way make a main distinction between what may be termed as additive and restructuring learning. The new wave of learning and education for mature adults is for the time being mainly a middle-class phenomenon.
