ABSTRACT

The interest of this volume is in material reality, and its purpose is twofold: first and in general, it wants to examine recent changes in the meanings, perception, and studies of material cultures; second, and on a more specific note, it intends to provide a further and detailed insight into the relationship between materiality and popular culture as rehearsed in de Certeau’s claim that “the actual order of things is precisely what ‘popular’ tactics turn to their own ends […]” (1984, 26; after Fiske 1989a, 17).
