ABSTRACT

This chapter identifies the key principles underpinning effective lesson planning; and understands the factors that need to be taken account of when planning. It knows how to apply these principles and factors to your planning for young people's musical learning. Effective teaching and learning can only be achieved through detailed and thought-through planning. The chapter explores the process of planning a lesson: by presenting a framework for planning; and analysing the implications of this framework for the process of planning. A brief statement concerning the focus of the sequence of lessons of which the planned lesson is a part. This statement is the same for all lessons in the sequence and reflects the overall learning aim for the sequence identified in the department's Scheme of Work. The chapter identifies the musical tasks and activities that young people undertake during the lesson in order to achieve the learning outcomes.
