ABSTRACT

This chapter considers what has been learnt about the concept of climate compatible development (CCD) itself; it then reflects on the potential of CCD to encourage transformative pathways, be politically informed and supported, and develops and sustains an effective integrated approach. CCD offers something additional, though it is not alone in this, in advocating for opportunities that contribute to mitigation as well as adaptation and development, and to adaptation as well as mitigation and development. Such opportunities can be found in plans and strategies such as National Adaptation Programmes of Action (NAPAs), Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) and the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs). Many of the measures in these plans have the potential to contribute to mitigation, adaptation and development objectives simultaneously and CCD has the potential to encourage and facilitate integrated thinking and action in implementation of the plans.
