ABSTRACT

Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) have been spreading and receiving attention worldwide in the last few years. The MOOC organized and delivered by Rwaq was the first attempt to implement MOOC in the Arab world. This was a large-scale implementation with thousands of learners from many countries. The Arab region has one of the highest rates of young population who need further education and development to gain global-level competencies and skills. MOOC is a tool that can participate in developing the region's intellectual capital. The following are recommended for future MOOC in the Arab region such as a team approach should be used to develop MOOCs to make sure they are of high quality. A team should consist of subject matter expert, instructional designer, multimedia expert and IT specialist. Pedagogical models must be developed to successfully integrate MOOC in distance education, blended learning and flipped classroom.
