ABSTRACT

This chapter draws on the areas where m-learning has been characterized in limited and unimaginative terms for addressing myths. It explores the broad range of affordances that are now offered by the types of mobile devices that are widespread in the learner community for addressing m-learning innovations. Indeed, one of the major current movements in education worldwide is the integration of mobile devices, particularly tablets, into the daily life of the classroom. Investment in education should see a return in terms of learning taking place, whether in a public school system, a university or a corporate training environment. Large investments in educational technologies take funding away from alternative investments in education. There is a common approach to m-learning that is based on mobilization of existing e-Learning systems, particularly learning management systems (LMS). An example of this would be mobile clients for the Moodle LMS. One of m-learning's most significant innovations has to do with the ownership of personal learning devices.
