ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the concepts, advantages and issues surrounding mobile learning in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations. The Ambient Insight Premium Report states that the Kuwaiti government aimed to launch mobile learning in all schools by 2013. The scheme was piloted in secondary schools during 2011, with online materials and learning technologies. Seliaman and Al-Turki used a framework to study the concept of students using mobile technologies to engage in internet searches and reading educational content. This study did not find any strong positive relationship between student's opinions of mobile learning concept. The chapter deals with the Bahrain, that has one of the most advanced education systems in the Gulf. A study by Al-Ani et al a questionnaire was given to 107 students at the University of Bahrain's IT College. The results suggest that universities should focus on technological development and employee training, and show the importance of implementing mobile learning in higher education to the development of Bahrain's economy.
