ABSTRACT

This chapter traces steps in production workflow, using actual documents from the work of 2nd Assistant Director Allen Kupetsky on The Social Network directed by David Fincher. Kupetsky also worked on Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Fight Club. Items include working closely with the 1st assistant director and unit production manager (UPM); paths to get into the DGA; hiring 2nd 2nd AD and production assistants (PAs); specific work of the second assistant director (2nd AD); Microsoft Office Excel; EP Movie Magic Budget and EP Movie Magic Scheduling; PIX Systems; script supervisor, director of photography (DP); 1st Assistant Camera (1st AC), Sound Mixer, Boom Operator, Gaffer; Key Grip; rehearsing, lighting, blocking, shooting.

The actual screenplay pages written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin for the classic opening scene of The Social Network are featured in this chapter, along with subsequent workflow documents, all courtesy of Columbia Pictures.
