ABSTRACT

The collective construction of social indicators of wellbeing has been my main area of research for the past five or six years. The relevance of my work for megaproject evaluation stems from the significant impacts that such projects may have on people’s daily lives and wellbeing. The controversies surrounding megaprojects entail scientific, social, ethical and many other dimensions. In such controversies, the representations and perceptions of people play an important but often neglected role, since even agreeing upon a common definition of the situation is often impossible. Social indicators could help to overcome such difficulties or at least reveal the representations underlying individual or collective positions.
