ABSTRACT

This chapter is comprised of two stories. One is the story of the author’s parents, who met, fell in love, and became engaged in 1942 in the Jewish Ghetto of Riga, Latvia. While both survived two concentration camps and 11 months on the run following their escape in 1944, they never had a formal wedding. The second story recounts the author’s making of a documentary film celebrating his parents’ wedding, held on their 50th anniversary. The film follows the couple and their family during the two weeks leading up to the wedding and is a testament to resilience and healing.
