ABSTRACT
It should be recognised that this framework refers only to the ‘supply’ side of the relationship. Even though they have some built-in demand as government-sponsored knowledge brokers, WSIPP and the CPB remain at the whim of the political process in terms of whether or not their research is used. The interviewees stressed the need for champions among decisionmakers, political will and the ‘right political moment or opportunity’ for their research to have impact (RF1, 11/2/2015; RF2, 12/2/2015; WSIPP1, 10/2/2015; Academy of Social Sciences, 2014).
