ABSTRACT

The already strong focus on voluntary initiatives governing business and human rights has intensified in the wake of a series of judicial restrictions on tort procedures for hearing complaints against companies.2 The most effective such initiative, the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (the Guiding Principles), is currently at the core of corporate human rights management. The Guiding Principles were established after six years of multi-stakeholder consultation to achieve consensus on corporate duties towards human rights.
