ABSTRACT

The National Curriculum identifies similar aspects: Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others' needs, wants and values. A search engine can be used to find many curricula focusing on primary design and technology (D&T) or technology and related subjects worldwide. D&T affords pupils many opportunities in different ways to develop their own creativity, something that is so important for life. The early years are the foundation for all children's education and it is vital that these children have D&T experiences that can be built on as they move through their primary education. Having identified the nature of D&T and how teaching might be structured, it is easy to see how links to creativity can be identified and pupils' creativity nurtured and developed if true D&T is experienced. The chapter also presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in this book.
