ABSTRACT

Classroom talk can be used to assist children's creativity and facilitate learning in design and technology. Inter-cognitive conversation involves relating to others, being open to new ideas and working with others to develop new understandings and outcomes. When preparing explicit learning objectives for children, the separation of the learning objective from its context ensures that children and teachers are clearly focused on learning. Engagement in effective classroom talk involves trust and some degree of relationship between the people involved. Talk plays a significant role in cognitive development. Useful strategies foster critical and independent thinking, both of which are key elements in the fostering of creativity. Inquiry learning includes open-ended pursuits undertaken by children and can draw on knowledge and skills not otherwise used in school. Ideation is the taking of a single idea in a variety of directions with the aim of creating something new and original.
