ABSTRACT

In this chapter, creativity is explored in three categories: data management, brain flow, and resolution. Creativity activation is a critical component to what we are looking at in the Expressive Therapies Continuum (ETC). Copying and changing the drawing is an important component of the assignment because it simplifies the idea that something must be a particular way and notes an awareness of new information over time. Recollection of memories can elicit great imagery for drawing and free expression but needs to be pushed further for the creativity to be fully activated. Kotler defines flow as an "optimal state of consciousness where we feel our best and perform our best. In Kagin and Lusebrink's article on the ETC, creativity was the fourth level of the continuum but present in all the levels to some degree. Propensity toward creativity is inherent in all people. Scientific research is asking many questions about creativity.
