ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a case study focused on the work performed with an athlete on the Spanish Nacional Boccia Team is presented. The case focuses on an athlete named "J", a 33-year-old male with eight years of experience on the national team who had won three Olympic medals and third place in the 2010 Boccia World Championship BC1 category. A request from the athlete's coach began the psychological training process with J. J plays a major role among players on the national team since he is considered to be a model for all athletes. A sociogram was first used to determine the relationships among the athletes on the team. The practitioners need to be aware that communication processes are especially important with cerebral palsy athletes. The creation of an international network of professionals who can share information in regards to applied work within the context of sport and disabled athletes.
