ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the case of "Chris", a certified consultant with the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (CC-AASP) neophyte sport, exercise, and performance psychology (SEPP) supervisor and faculty member at a small university. It provides relevant background information on the mentor and mentee and a description and analysis of the case study, discusses the theoretical approach or philosophy and steps for preparation will lead into a section for processing and reflecting on the situation. Chris's graduate program used a meta-supervision model in which he was exposed to the basics about providing supervision, was a peer mentor, and gained guidance and feedback during his development. The neophyte mentor and mentee both bring their own thoughts, feelings, and emotions into the mentor-mentee relationship. Building an effective mentor-mentee relationship is even more important when considering the welfare of the athlete the supervisee is working with.
