ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on helping meta-supervisors understand their role and explore ways they can facilitate competent supervision in sport psychology. It discusses the meta-supervision is part of the new JFKU sport psychology supervision model. Meta-supervision can be a complex process and something that many supervisors may not have had any formal training. This model model was created to provide a framework for the meta-supervisor and to help facilitate the supervision process. It begins with an assessment of the supervisor's background in supervisory roles and an understanding of one's working model of supervision. Gaining an understanding of a supervisor's theoretical approach, style, and beliefs of supervision can help facilitate the meta-supervisor's work with the supervisor. Meta-supervisors may use reflective practice to address aspects such as their own strengths and challenges that they have experienced. Reflective practice is an essential tool for developing awareness and learning from experiences and can be utilized by trainees, supervisors, and meta-supervisors in various scenarios.
