ABSTRACT

The author has observed that management of injury rehabilitation of dancers and athletes by a multidisciplinary team is highly beneficial and more effective than independent treatment approaches. When working within physically based career pursuits such as dance, dealing with the challenges of injuries and injury rehabilitation has been observed to be a regular occurrence. As a result, dance training institutions have a responsibility to assist students in accessing the multi-disciplinary healthcare services required to effectively treat injuries, in addition to increasing their knowledge of injury prevention, safe dance practice, and injury rehabilitation processes. Best-practice models in dance science, medicine, and healthcare typically follow those observed in elite sport, where multidisciplinary health teams are embedded within the organization and work closely with artistic staff to support students' recovery. "Lucy" was a 15-year-old student who had been accepted into an elite vocational dance training institution.
