ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses the energy and broader trade network that has emerged between Europe and Central Eurasia, with Turkey and Azerbaijan at its heart, is a clear source of economic benefit for all concerned. It describes in detail the 'romanticised relationship' between Azerbaijan and Turkey, evident immediately after the collapse of the USSR but soured shortly thereafter in large measure due to the conflict with Armenia over Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan's disappointment with Turkish policy and the lack of support for a just settlement. The book explains the critical geopolitics of Turkish and Azerbaijani conceptions of Eurasia. It also discusses the emerging evidence of trilateralism between Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, formalised with the Trabzon Declaration of June 2012, but also reflected in a series of collaborative projects for strategic trade and transportation. The book examines state-business relations in Azerbaijan.
