ABSTRACT
The United States, one contributor to this volume argues, “is living through a transformation as profound as the industrial revolution.” These essays examine that transformation and its ramifications. They focus on what these changes mean for democracy and equality—that is, Americans’ ability to participate in the decision-making of institutions under which they live; commitments to an inclusive and egalitarian ethic; and a more just distribution of the country’s fruits.
