ABSTRACT

The United Nations peacebuilding fund (PBF) under the United Nations (UN) secretary-general supports activities, actions, programs, and organizations that seek to build lasting peace in countries emerging from conflict. The secretary-general has delegated overall management of the PBF, including the direction of its resources and monitoring of activities, to the peacebuilding support office (PBSO). The PBF allocates money through two funding facilities, the immediate response facility (IRF) and the peacebuilding and recovery facility (PRF). The PBF's IMF is a flexible and fast-funding tool for single or multiple projects, designed to jumpstart immediate peacebuilding and recovery actions. The PRF is the fund's program-based financing facility, typically intended for countries within five years following the end of the conflict. The fund's partnerships within and outside the UN have varied. This has often depended on which country is supported, its context, and what role the PBF can play.
