ABSTRACT

Society's obsession with the rich and famous shows no sign of abating. News publications around the world run interviews focused on every aspect of celebrities' lives, from who they are dating to the contents of their fridges. Celebrities often get a bad press when it comes to interviews but don't assume that they are all difficult. There's no doubt, however, that interviewing celebrities is getting more and more challenging, largely because both they and their PRs make countless stipulations and demands before agreeing to go ahead. Some publicists ask journalists to send a list of questions in advance. The writer Sean Langan gave an idea of the difficulties journalists are up against when they interview celebrities in a Spectator Life piece in 2016. N. Farndale offers a raft of useful advice about interviewing celebrities in his collection of interviews, Flirtation, Seduction, Betrayal: Interviews with Heroes and Villains. Freelance writer Stephanie Rafanelli takes the utmost care in writing celebrity interview requests.
