ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the previous chapters of this book. The book focuses on some of the main points of contestation surrounding physical education as part of contemporary schooling. It reviews aims and values in physical education and specifically whether opposing traditions in physical education can ever be reconciled. The book presents an historical and contemporary-informed overview of the varied ways in which physical education can plausibly be conceptualised and supported. It discusses how efforts are being made to create overarching curriculum frameworks that are more holistic, robust and flexible, and of how the integration of the models-based practice and 'connective specialism' approaches could act as a catalyst to support future overarching curriculum developments. The book focuses specifically on primary school teachers' perspectives on physical education through deploying an 'ecological framework and complexity principles as the basis for analysing teachers' professionalism'.
