ABSTRACT

This chapter considers how the physical education profession is addressing the educational status issue in terms of the curriculum frameworks being developed to secure the subject's future position in schools. It discusses how physical education has found itself in its current situation by reflecting on the non-linear evolution of the subject throughout the previous century and the accompanying lack of consensus about its main purpose in schools.
