ABSTRACT

Ever since male same-sex acts were decriminalised in Russia in 1993, Russian politicians have been trying to keep the LGBT community within the ‘zones of internet and commerce’ and away from the political debate (Healey, 2008, p. 175). In many ways, the community remains marginalised and strongly surrounded by an aura of depravity and illegality; an open public discourse about LGBT issues remains virtually non-existent.
