ABSTRACT

The coinage of Al-Andalus is, without doubt, the best preserved part of the Andalusi material heritage and its importance cannot be underestimated when trying to understand the ideological changes that occurred during its near eight centuries of existence. The coinage, in most cases dated, clearly and precisely reflects these changes up to the exact year. Those interested in the history of the period should take good note that this large corpus of material evidence is not static but constantly expanding with the continuous publication of new treasure troves and individual coins as they are being found.
