ABSTRACT

Climate change represents one of the most complex and biggest collective action problems for humanity: it has dispersed causes and effects and a vast number of individuals and institutions contribute to global warming (Gardiner, 2006). While the scientific challenge with regard to the climate change issue is to identify and separate the various mechanisms that affect the climate change network (West & Scafetta, 2010, p. 42), the current system of global governance faces the task of imposing and sustaining the agreed level of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere.
