ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the contemporary situation of the Palestinian minority in the state of Israel. It begins with a relatively brief account of the foundational circumstances which led to the creation of the Jewish State and the Palestinian minority within it, and the evolving status, identity, and national consciousness of this minority between 1948 and the twenty-first century. The chapter explores contemporary trends in the situation of the Palestinian minority in the state of Israel in major fields of life, including an account of its social, legal, and political rights. It discusses the current political situation of the Palestinian minority in Israel. The chapter deals with Palestinian civic and political empowerment in the state of Israel, which will depend largely on the ability to coalesce with Jewish partners in the political realm for the realization of this vision.
