ABSTRACT

Family-based treatment (FBT; Lock & Le Grange, 2013) and the Maudsley Method (Russell, Szmukler, Dare, & Eisler, 1987) have clearly demonstrated that children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa (AN) benefit from active parent involvement in the behavioral management of weight restoration and other symptoms of the illness (Lock, 2015). Randomized controlled trials comparing FBT to individual therapy (Lock, Le Grange, Agras, Moye, Bryson, & Jo, 2010) and systemic family therapy (Agras et al., 2014) have demonstrated FBT to be more effective at follow-up. Further, FBT is a recommended treatment for both AN (American Psychiatric Association, 2006a; Lock, 2015; Lock et al., 2010), and bulimia nervosa (Le Grange, Lock, Agras, Bryson, & Booil, 2015).
