ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine the role of research in the development of individual practitioners, and its place in the profession at large, including how it fits in with counselling psychology’s ethos and values. We provide examples of the many kinds of research studies that counselling psychologists might engage with in their professional practice, whether this is psychotherapy, or other domains, such as academia, training, supervision, consultancy or service development. Through the use of a case example, we illustrate how engaging with research can energise and expand a counselling psychologist’s career and employability.
