ABSTRACT

The first part of the chapter outlines the importance of belonging to a professional organisation and then goes on to explain how counselling psychologists often choose to affiliate with specific groups, and divisions of counselling psychology. The second part of the chapter will look at developing your professional career path and professional development as counselling psychologists, through continuing professional development, focusing on key values, your own identity and career choices. The chapter will highlight the variety in our profession and some of the opportunities afforded to members, such as forming professional connections, and the many transferable skills that counselling psychologists possess. Some suggestions will be made about how you can become more involved within your professional organisation to enhance your professional development as a counselling psychologist.
