ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to provide an overview of both the development and the current status of professional training in counselling psychology in the UK and the processes by which you can qualify as a counselling psychologist today. The, often confusing, issues of accreditation and registration will be explained and the chapter will include summaries of guidelines and requirements for these processes. The application and interview stages of the selection process will be explained in detail and some suggestions made for how to prepare for the course interview. A brief summary of the main elements of counselling psychology training will provide a structure and framework to help decide if this is the career for you and give an indication of some of the preparation you will need to do prior to application.
