ABSTRACT

For aging adults, eating adequate amounts of fruits and vegetables may help prevent or manage chronic disease and promote health and quality of life (Institute of Medicine 2012; Van Duyn and Pivonka 2000). Yet some seniors, particularly those who are homebound, face many barriers to eating fruit and vegetables. These include problems of physical access, as those with limited mobility may have difficulty getting to a store or market, and cost, as lower income seniors may not be able to afford fresh fruits and vegetables.
