ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the aims of partnership working, its development in United Kingdom (UK) crime prevention history, the outcomes that it has engendered, and some of the factors which influence its implementation. It focuses on the UK context and draws mostly on UK examples, however, the points raised will resonate with and be relevant to partnership working elsewhere. The chapter discusses that partnership activity, which is much promoted and sometimes successful, is shaped by cultural and structural features of organisations. Representatives of agencies came to the partnership with different statutory and non-statutory responsibilities and powers, differences in the degree of rigidity of organisational procedures and management, and different performance indicators. The chapter reflects on what working with Nick Tilley can tell us about partnership working.
