ABSTRACT

The Roche Health Center project began in 2008 in response to a need identified by the Roche community. The health center is the result of nonprofits, universities and individuals working together, across oceans, over many years. The project is the result of a collaboration between Cincinnati-based and Tanzanian nonprofits collaborating with faculty and students from the University of Cincinnati, the Clinton School of Public Service, and residents of the Roche village in Tanzania. Together they have merged research, scholarship, pedagogy, and outreach based on a set of community engagement principles in order to create a health center that is embraced and used by the Roche community. This chapter addresses how evaluations of student learning are informed by the principles of the organizations and are directly impacting the Roche community and students in these universities.
