ABSTRACT
The new Public Interest Design Certificate at North Carolina State College of Design strengthens the institution’s role as a global leader in providing public service. The curricular content, which is research, classroom, and field based, educates students and professionals in how to use design to address the critical challenges that communities face in the world. This program provides an opportunity to align the teaching, research, and outreach of the college and to further the strategic plan of the college. As a graduate-level program, the Public Interest Design Certificate provides much-needed education in this rapidly emerging field.
