ABSTRACT

The article investigates how different exhibition spaces and different ways of exhibiting can create new understandings of objects as they move between a museum and a market setting. The article presents a collaboration between the University Museum in Bergen, Norway and a large local shopping mall about a pop-up exhibition of natural- and cultural historical objects from the museum’s collections. During the process, the museum was challenged to reconsider established museum practices and experienced a need to redefine their role, possibly from educator to facilitators.
