ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a case study about Percy, who was 14 years old and presented himself as a grounded, happy and well behaved adolescent, eager to talk about his experiences. Percy's official diagnosis of dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia was based on a comprehensive assessment. His full scale quotient was 118 on the Indian adaptation of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised Test. The results of the locally-devised Curriculum Based Test (CBT) revealed that he had severe problems in reading. The CBT evaluation described Percy as reading dysfluently with the help of his finger with numerous mispronunciations. Percy's school offered remedial classes, his parents also hired a private special educator who worked with him on a one-to-one basis mainly on reading and spelling. The remedial program included: phonics-based reading, language development and completion of worksheets. Percy is very much aware of his personal learning style as well as his strengths and weaknesses. He knows that he learns best by listening and seeing.
