ABSTRACT
In this chapter we show how successful research in Australian Indigenous communities relies on the building of reciprocal relationships and mutual understanding between communities and researchers. We describe how we went about establishing relationships with two very different communities and we reflect on how this process influenced the kind of research we were able to conduct in each community in both positive and negative ways.
