ABSTRACT

Achieving gender diversity and equality is an important goal for many Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics organisations in Australia. The 2011–2012 Annual Report of the organisation in this case study showed that of the 199 staff, 69 are women, representing around 35% of the workforce. Equality is about choice, choice is the essence of empowerment. The participants were asked to complete a pre-coaching and post-coaching survey about the coaching programme, to document their expectations and the impact of coaching, providing evidence of a progression from expectations to reality. The programme met a common goal, an empowered and engaged coaching cohort. This desire was both that of management and the women employees and contractors. The organisation benefited from the programme as disengaged women, who saw few opportunities and were cynical about the organisation's motivations, recognised the possibility of partnership and, consequently, changed their attitude and behaviour.
