ABSTRACT

This chapter considers some key challenges for coaching and mentoring in Asia Pacific. The challenges include the increased demand for coaches and mentors in Asia Pacific as a result of the talent dynamics and leadership needs in this region, the necessity for cross-cultural coaching and mentoring competence due to the cultural diversity in the Asia Pacific region. The challenges also include the need to build a coaching and mentoring culture in organisations with the rise of millennial in the workforce, the need for more empirical research on coaching and mentoring in the Asia Pacific region to be conducted to provide an evidence base for addressing the challenges. In terms of investment, the two largest costs are found in action learning and executive coaching/mentoring. There is a rise in demand for coaches or mentors in the Asia Pacific region. Therefore, coaches and mentors should engage in self-discovery to develop cultural awareness and cultural competence.
