ABSTRACT

Besides the manifold aspects of economic, social, and cultural developments, which are visible in the long-lasting Trypillia history, the most striking aspects of this phenomenon are the construction of extremely well laid out settlements with their concentric house rings and the immense size of the population agglomerations, especially in comparison with other pre historic and historic cases. As already pronounced by different authors within this book, Trypillia research is able to identify these mega-sites staring around 4000/3900 bce and lasting especially in the Southern Buh Dnipro region until c. 3700/3600 bce. Within the mentioned time horizon, we can characterize these sites on three different levels.
