ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the results of some surveys and outlines the perspectives for reconstructing the size and spatial structure of the settlements. The closer integration of the geomagnetic survey in the archaeological practice finally led to a deeper understanding of geomagnetic data and its archaeological background. The first geomagnetic surveys and excavations on site were conducted by M. M. Shmaglij and T. Movsha from 1974 to 1984. In 2012 and 2013, geomagnetic surveys were carried out at the northern and western central areas of the site. When the results of aerial photography, geomagnetic surveys, small excavations, and field walking are taken into account, the site seems to measure around 170 ha. The site of Apolianka dates in the final stage of the Trypillian Culture subsequent to Maidanetske.
