T he assassination of Che Guevara in October 1967, the huge Penta-gon march in November, the Tet Offensive in January 1968, McCarthy’s March challenge to Johnson in New Hampshire, Bobby Kennedy’s entry into the presidential race that same month, the murder of Dr. King in Memphis in April and Kennedy in June-all these cumulative shocks demonstrated that the Machiavellian order was out of control.
