ABSTRACT

As the election approached, voter registration had reached all-time highs, and now Jessica was focused on the early vote. “We’re trying to run up the Obama numbers as far as we can, whether or not we can win here.” Thousands of volunteers were making the same effort in red states, pushing Obama toward a national voter majority. On that Friday, Jessica already had exceeded the expectations of the Obama campaign, getting more than 30 percent of the new Obama voters to cast their ballots before Tuesday. “We’re trying for over 50 percent by Monday,” she said, with proud excitement in her voice.
