ABSTRACT

The Cuban Revolution of 1959 captured the world’s imagination. The New York Times called it “one of the most remarkable phenomena in the history of Latin America” (New York Times, 1959: 32). Many young North Americans from Canada and the United States went to Cuba in the 1960s to learn about the revolution firsthand, to live and work on the island, and to support one of the most important events in recent Latin American history.
