ABSTRACT

Gregory Smith is a professor in the Graduate School of Education at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. He is a coauthor of Reducing the Risk: Schools as Communities of Support; author of Education and the Environment: Learning to Live with Limits; editor of Public Schools That Work: Creating Community; and coeditor (with Dilafruz Williams) of Ecological Education in Action: On Weaving Education, Culture, and the Environment. He is currently exploring the role of place-based education as one means for moving our society in the direction of ecological sustainability.
