ABSTRACT

For half a century, there has been a worldwide trend toward an industrialized agricultural-production system. Many perceive this trend as being at the expense of the environment, family farmers, subsistence farmers, and rural communities. Those that benefit from industrialization describe it as inevitable and invariably favorable. It eliminates the drudgery of yesteryear and frees people up for more productive purposes. It provides the safest food in the world. It is the most productive agricultural system in the world. It can compete with any farmer in the world.
